A Space does not end where the wall does. It continues, indifferent, the way a grid continues past the edge of the page. What we call a building is only the part of that continuum we have agreed to imagine into walls, to name.

We inherited the idea that architecture begins with a foundation. Perhaps it begins earlier, with a dream about which part of the continuous world deserves a wall at all, and which part is left to remain myth. A building is not built against the landscape, it is a fragment of it, temporarily convinced of its own edges.

To design, then, is not to add something new to the world. It is to draw a line inside something that was already total, and to ask what everyone standing on either side of it might still imagine it could become.
